VOICE SEARCH STATISTICS AND TRENDS 2019 | INFOGRAPHIC
Voice search in the simplest terms is the practice of speaking into an Artificial Intelligence (AI) powered device as opposed to the traditional means of typing text to generate results for a search query. Since AI is involved, these queries are structured into keywords and then used for finding the desired results on the platform.
It is as simple as asking a question and the AI replies with a coherent, logical response. Decades back the same concepts used to emerge in sci-fi movies, depicting an era that was several hundred years ahead of the time. However, with the evolving technology curve and the immense capital spent on AI, voice search has rapidly mainstreamed and merged into several applications we use every day. According to a recent survey, 55% of teenagers use voice search on a daily basis while 29% of voice-enabled device owners use their devices for online shopping.
Moreover, to improve the accuracy of this technology, voice search has remained subject to constant improvements in its voice recognition algorithms and machine learning capabilities. For instance, speech recognition has improved by several folds and can now identify and validate even the minor syllables of human speech.
Although voice search has been around for some years, it was until a few years back that the technology was refined and made available for commercial use. Technologies such as Google Assistant, Microsoft’s Cortana, Siri, and Amazon Alexa are the ultimate products of Voice AI.
The technology is so fluid and popular that by 2020 Voice Personal Assistant (VPA) devices will experience sales worth $2.1 billion. Experts believe that the growing use of voice shopping will help numerous e-commerce sectors and support a vibrant industry for digital marketing. From the economic perspective, voice shopping is projected to reach $40 Billion in the U.S. and $5 Billion in the UK by 2022 which is an impressive number.
VPA enabled speakers are now an integral part of every modern home and come with several advanced features. Devices that are powered or supported by voice AI such as Amazon Echo can understand human speech in its most minute details and structure the query into context with immaculate accuracy. In a report shared by Voicebot.ai, US household adoption of VPA enabled speakers will increase to 55% from 13% that is today.
The technology has imbued so deeply into e-commerce that 85% of voice shoppers feel confident from the recommendations that AI assistants give them. To learn more about the latest trends and statistics about Voice Search you can scroll down to the infographic below designed by FME extensions.
