How to Schedule Automatic Backup in Magento 2
What’s the worst thing that can happen to your Magento 2 store? You may think that dwindling sales orders is the biggest concern but think again. You can always find ways to increase your conversion rate. What if your store crashed due to a technical error or an authorised individual gained access to it, deleting every bit of data.
Can you recover from it? The answer is no because you will have to start over which can be nearly impossible.
Nevertheless, there is an exception which is if you have a backup. In that case, all you need to do is recover your store using a backup and you’ll be online again in no time at all. The problem is that most store owners forget to back up their store, only realising its importance once it is too late.
Fortunately, Magento 2 allows you to schedule automatic backups, doing away with the need for a manual backup. Thus, even if you forget to do it yourself, Magento 2 will do it on your behalf. In this article, we will guide you through the process of scheduling an automatic backup in Magento 2.
Schedule Magento 2 Automatic Backup
The first thing you need to do is log in to the Magento 2 Admin Panel > Stores > Configuration (underneath the Settings tab).
Once you open the ‘Configuration’ tab, expand the ‘Advanced’ section and then click on ‘System’. Now, go the ‘Backup Settings’ option.
Now, configure the settings as:
Enable Backup: Yes
Enable Scheduled Backup: Yes
This will enable automatic backups in Magento 2, but your work is not done yet.
Scheduled Backup Type: You have different options when selecting the backup type. You can either backup just the database, the entire store, entire store without media, and data with media.
Start Time: Select the time when you want to schedule the automatic backup. We recommend a time when traffic is low.
Frequency: Select the frequency for scheduling the automatic backup. It can be either daily, weekly, or monthly.
Maintenance Mode: Yes
This will enable the maintenance mode when the backup is scheduled to start.
