This is what this Magento 2 who viewed this also viewed extension does. It uses the algorithm that automatically suggests products customers may be interested in based on the original product’s features or view history. You have the option to display these products in a slider or grid.
You can position the products slider anywhere on your product page. By default this extension provides you with the following slider positions:
- After page header
- Before main columns
- Main content area
- Page top, bottom, header, or footer container
- Product view extra hint
- Social links container
Target specific product types and categories to suggest products for. The ‘Also Viewed’ block will only appear for the selected product types and categories.
Example: If you select Simple & Configurable product in Product types and Select Bags, Men>Jackets & Training Videos in Category section then Also-Viewed block will appear on all product pages of “Bags” & “Mens>Jackets”, as all of them are either simple or configurable products but block will not appear on product detail pages of Training Videos category because they are all downloadable products.

You can select either to hide the slider or display random products from your store catalog if the users view no product recently.
