The problem with the default Magento product comparison feature is that it reloads the page every time a customer clicks the ‘Add to Compare’ text/icon. Customers also can’t see what products they have already added to the list until they click the ‘Compare’ button. This is not so optimal.
The Magento 2 Smart Compare extension provides a smart solution to this. It updates the compare list on the fly and displays the added products in a block at the bottom of the same page. This way, customers are sure of the products they have added to compare without visiting the ‘compare product’ page.
By default, smart compare works on catalog pages. However, you can enable it for product pages too. When enabled, the compare block will appear on the product page.
You can limit the number of products customers can add for comparison. The maximum limit is 5. Customers will get a message if they try to exceed the limit.
Make the compare block look good by changing its background color. Give custom titles to the ‘Compare’ and ‘Clear’ buttons that will be displayed in the block. The Compare button directs customers to the compare product page to compare all the added products by their features and prices. The Clear button removes all the products from the list.
A popup displays a warning message if a customer tries to add more products to the compare list than the maximum limit. You can beautify the popup by customizing its background color. You can also write a custom message and customize the text color. The message takes the maximum allowed number dynamically.
